✦ Never Been to a Drift Event? ✦

You'll wonder why it took you this long.

Real cars. Real drivers. Smoke so thick you can smell it from the parking lot. At the events with general admission it's $10 at the gate, free for age 12 and under, with food on site & free parking. Not every event is open to spectators though — clinics and some private days are drivers and crew only, so check the event details before you set off.

Michigan Grassroots Drift Events — Jackson, Owosso, and Gingerman

Mid Michigan Drift Club runs a full grassroots drift season in Michigan across three tracks from spring through fall. Whether you're a longtime car enthusiast or just looking for something wild to do on a weekend near Jackson, MI, start with the schedule above. General admission is $10, and 12 and under get in free, with food on site & free parking. Some events are run as drivers-and-crew-only track days with no spectators. Check the schedule and event page for details.

Our events range from beginner-friendly drift clinics to full open competition days, making MMDC the perfect entry point for anyone curious about grassroots motorsport in Michigan. Jackson Speedway sits at 3363 Page Ave in Jackson, MI — an easy drive from Lansing, Ann Arbor, Detroit, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, and Flint, and most of the lower peninsula in between.

What It Takes To Run With Us

This page is for drivers. The process is short: read the Tech Book, get the car sorted, buy a ticket, and pass tech. Everything below is the quick version — the Tech Book is the full one, and it is what your car is actually measured against.

01Read the Tech Book. It is the rulebook your car gets checked against. Nothing else on this page replaces it.
02Get the car sorted. The five things below are what tech actually looks for.
03Buy a driver ticket — or check the schedule first. Entries are capped and events do sell out; every event has a different cap, some as low as 10 to 15 drivers.
04Show up and pass tech. Bring your crew — most driver entries include a crew pass.

Recommended Equipment

What to buy, and roughly what to spend. This is guidance, not the rulebook — the Tech Book is what your car is measured against, and it wins wherever the two differ.

Welded Diff

Roughly $100 – $500

Both wheels have to break traction together. Weld the open diff you have, or run a two-way. Cost depends on whether you pull it yourself and who does the welding.

Coilovers

Roughly $600 – $1,500

Entry to mid range. The cheap end will get you on track; the money buys damping you can actually tune. Budget properly here before anywhere else — you feel it more than anything else on this list.

A Seat That Fits You

Roughly $220 – $700 new

An entry-level racing bucket starts around $220; the range covers most of what a grassroots car needs. Used is fine too. It has to hold you in place and take the right belts. A stock seatbelt with a bucket seat will work.

A Working Handbrake

Roughly $0 – $750

It has to lock the rears while you are sideways. A dual-caliper setup is ideal but not required — on some cars the factory handbrake is enough, which is why the low end of that range is zero. Ask us about yours.

Helmet

Roughly $150 – $500

Non-negotiable, and the one place not to bargain-hunt blind. Budget Snell SA-rated lids start near $150; a well-known brand runs $340 and up. Check the Tech Book for the accepted ratings before you buy, so you do not buy twice.

Fire Extinguisher & Mount

Roughly $100 – $200

A 2.5lb extinguisher plus a quick-release mount. It has to be secured and reachable from the driver’s seat — loose in the footwell does not pass.

Not sure what fits your car? Ask us. We would rather talk you through it before you spend the money than fail you at tech on the morning — and we can often get parts through our distributor accounts. Message us on any of the channels in the Social menu.

Built for the Love of the Slide

Mid Michigan Drift Club is a Michigan grassroots drift community — and we run it the right way. No velvet ropes, no gatekeeping. Just real cars, real drivers, and real people standing at a fence watching something they've never seen this close before.

We run a season full of large events, and clinics, most of it at Jackson Speedway, just off Page Ave in Jackson, MI — an easy drive from Lansing, Ann Arbor, Detroit, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, or Flint. We also run dates at Owosso Speedway in Ovid and Gingerman Raceway in South Haven. Whether you're coming to watch for the first time or you've been chasing angle for years, there's a place for you here.

For Spectators

You've Never Seen Anything Like This

Drifting is the loudest, smokiest, most sideways thing happening in Michigan on a weekend — and it's one of the best-value days out you'll find. At the events we open to the public, general admission is $10 at the gate and 12 and under get in free. Walk the pits, get close to the cars, and watch drivers push the limits in ways that will genuinely surprise you.

  • 🎟️ General admission $10 · 12 & under free
  • 🅿️ Free parking at Jackson Speedway
  • 📋 Some dates are drivers & crew only — check the schedule
  • 🔓 Open pits — walk right up to the cars

Here's What to Expect

01

Show Up & Park

Free parking at Jackson Speedway. At events with general admission it's $10 at the gate, free for 12 and under, with no pre-registration needed. Check the event first — not every date is open to spectators.

02

Walk the Pits

Unlike stadium motorsport, grassroots drifting has open pits. You can walk right up to the cars, talk to drivers, and see what makes a drift build tick.

03

Find Your Spot

The action at Jackson Speedway happens close. Find a spot at the fence near a corner and watch cars come in at full lock — loud, smoky, and completely controlled chaos.

04

Eat, Hang, Repeat

Rotating food vendors are on site at events — or pack your own. It's a full day out. Bring the crew, find a spot at the fence, and stay until the last run.
